There was a message I wanted to convey through this song, I couldn't quite articulate.

After struggling with the lyrics for a while, they just came.

While waiting for the birth of my son Elliott in the delivery room with his Mom, 'Intelligent Design' and then Elliott were born.

'Intelligent Design' was originally released on the 'Hinterlandband - Bon Echo LP' (2012) available for purchase here at Bandcamp.

I've always felt a particulalr fondness for the vocal arrangement in this tune - and the Beach Boys a-cappella remixes that have been rereleased over the years.

A lot of the Beach Boys tracks I'm speaking towards were done in the legendary Capitol Studios (1960s) - utilizing equally legendary (and rare) EMT 140 reverb plates. These monstrous sound toys are 600 lbs of glorious, sonic divinity.

As it turned out - my Montreal pals (Adrian Popovich & Joseph Donovan @ Royal Mountain Studios) have access to a couple of functioning EMT 140 units.

So I happened upon the concept to partner an a-cappella remix of this tune with a local videographer. We were going to hit the backroads of the Ottawa Valley and capture footage in Winter & Spring.

Due too many covid-related complications I opted to change direction.

It was at thhis time, a friend of mine - Shawn Wagner - had unwittingly suggested I look up Cobden's own 'Tired' Tim Graham's photography.

His portfolio was exactly what I was looking for. Tim's vision is 'hand-in-glove' with the message being conveyed lyrically.

With this video project, it is my wish to convey and maybe plant some seeds of hope. In hope, that we begin to truly cherish the miracle and mystery of the natural life in front of our eyes - here in the Ottawa Valley and across the universe.

For me, I see the creator, God, in the finite properties that is life on our planet. An incredible tapestry of interconnectedness between ourselves, the creation and the creator - to me - is an undeniable truth.
